Throughout history the passing of time has obfuscated the misdeeds of men. George W. Bush in the new millennium playing the role of dithering grandpa and receiving nostalgic affection. No longer a war-mongering imbecile controlled, with full view of the puppet strings, by Dick Cheney and his Halliburton masters. Ryan Kesler, despite his back peddling and friendship with beloved former Canucks, isn’t a Canucks legend; he is a Canucks villain. Ryan Johansen, NHL star and a true Vancouverite despite having never (yet) worn the whale, sums Kes up perfectly:

“He just blows my mind, I don’t know what’s going through his head out there. His family and friends watching him play, I don’t know how you cheer for a guy like that. It just doesn’t make sense how he plays the game. I’m just trying to go out there and play hockey, and it sucks when you have to pull a stick out of your groin after every shift.”

As a staunch Canucks fan since 1988 I just want to let Mr. Johansen know that I didn’t cheer for this man. I can understand frustration with the media, but Kes should understand that when he spoke to them, with his sour, Yankee-diva mindset, you were speaking to us. We hated you. Even when you single-handedly beat Nashville in 2011; we hated you. The minute you intentionally try to injure another athlete you are the heel. When you giggle about having sex with your opponents wives, sisters and girlfriends the fans hear: “I am an asshole.” Period.

No, Ryan Kesler shouldn’t be in the Canucks Ring of Honour and he knows it. He knows he can’t even walk the streets of the city. He in unwelcome here, banned, and enshrining him at the Garage is unfathomable. It’s not just because he demanded a trade and handcuffed us into a fleecing. It’s not just because he is an American and has lamented his hate for Canadians. It’s not just because he played the game without honour. It is because he is unapologetic about all the above.
